Q. Do the teenie tiny hearing aids that the ads say hide in your ears have all the same features as the hearing aids that fit behind your ears?
A. The short answer is “No.”.
I will guess that the features you are referring to are the BlueTooth features in external hearing aids that allow them to communicate with smartphones, to each other, and with other devices like TV adapters. Sorry, the answer is still, “No.”.
The issue is components. Today’s hearing aids contain an array of microphones, amplifiers, antennas, and a vast number of computer chips. When you include the Bluetooth parts as well, they will not all squeeze into a teenie tiny hearing aid that fits into your canal.
The one caveat is the shape of and the amount of space in your ear canals. The fact is the majority of us have relatively narrow, curvy ear canals. Ask your hearing center to explain whether you are a candidate for full-featured, teenie tiny, in-the-canal hearing aids. If you are not a candidate and do not need BlueTooth features, a teenie tiny hearing aid might be for you. Except for how they feel and sound – more on that next week.
Call us at the Better Hearing Center of Austin for a thorough, well explained ear and hearing exam. You will also listen to new hearing aids at your appointment. We then provide 4-week hearing aid trials with follow-up appointments so our patients can fully test new hearing aids before they make a final purchase.
