Q. I plan to update my 5-year old hearing aids that I bought in central Austin. There are so many hearing centers in town now. Is it worth shopping around to find out more about the hearing aids that are available?
A. If you want to get up-to-date hearing aids that will last you another 5 years, shopping around is a good idea. Like with other products and services, you can do some legwork on your computer, over your phone, and through friends and family who use similar products and services.
Start at your current hearing center. Then, conduct some online research of your own. Take notes to compare features and costs. Find out from any family or friends who use hearing aids about their experiences and recommendations Find some well rated and reviewed hearing centers in Austin to call.
During your calls, ask about their in-office hearing aid demonstrations and off-site hearing aid trials. Visit the hearing centers you feel most comfortable with and try out the hearing aids they offer – plus you will learn a lot about their customer service and care.
Be wary about shopping only on price, unless you are comparing the exact same hearing aid models. Even then, consider the importance of good follow up care and service with your new hearing aids for the upcoming years.
