Q. Would you believe my 15-year old hearing aids still work? Since they do, is there any reason for me to get new ones?
A. If you still use your 15-year old hearing aids, you must rely on them a great deal to help you hear. If they were in perfect working order, they would help you … to a degree. Chances are they are not working at their peak performance after 15 years. Plus, your hearing, your brain, and hearing aid technology has changed a lot in 15 years.
It is very likely your hearing has changed in 15 years and would benefit much more from newer hearing aids. On top of that, your brain is older and needs more auditory support and better auditory information to hear well than it did 15 years ago.
Along with hearing more clearly and more easily, you might enjoy some of the features available in today’s newest hearing aids. You can wirelessly connect to other devices like smart phones, laptops, computers, TVs, stereos, etc. to hear them better. Most of our patients enjoy these features.
If you are still unsure, you should be able to listen to new hearing aids after a hearing test. Ask about this when you make an appointment.
Call us at the Better Hearing Center of Austin for a thorough, well explained ear and hearing exam. You will also listen to new hearing aids at your appointment. We then provide 4-week hearing aid trials with follow-up appointments so our patients can fully test new hearing aids before they make a final purchase.
