Invisible Hearing Aids – Part 1 of 2

Q:  I do not want anyone to see me wearing hearing aids.  Are there hearing aids available that cannot be seen?

A:  Short answer, yes.  Longer answer, there are daily and long-term invisible hearing aids.  Next week I will discuss the long-term version.

Daily hearing aids are ones you remove each day.  They either use consumable or rechargeable batteries.  Daily aids can be worn behind the ear or in the canal.  Only the tiniest, custom in-the-canal hearing aids have the ability to be invisible.  Of course, talk with your hearing specialist about your concerns and the environments you need to hear better in.  Sometimes, the aids need to be made to truly find out if they are invisible or not.

The tiny, custom in-the-canal hearing aids require an adequate amount space in your canal.  Your hearing specialist can gauge whether there is enough space in your canals for the aids to fully hide.  By using a retraction line on these tiny canal aids, you remove them each day.  The battery in these little aids lasts between 3 to 5 days.

The features available in these invisible custom hearing aids depends on the space in your ear canal and the subsequent size of the aids.  Basically, more space means more features like Bluetooth connectivity, extra programs, volume control, etc.  Less space means fewer features.
