Q. I moved from Houston to Austin late last year and have worn hearing aids for over 10 years. Can any local hearing center help me with my hearing aids?
A. Just about any hearing center can inspect and clean your hearing aids. For programming adjustments and unique in-office repair parts, you will be better served with hearing center that specializes in handling the manufacturer that made your hearing aids.
If your hearing aids are private labeled, you will need to locate a hearing center that is able to work with that same private labeled model of hearing aids. For example, Kirkland hearing aids can only be programmed at a Costco store that has a hearing center.
Each hearing aid manufacturer uses their own proprietary software to program their hearing aids. And each software package has its own quirks and unique features. Some hearing offices work with a wide variety of manufacturers and their software. Other hearing office specialize in just two or three hearing aid manufacturers and their software.
Use HealthyHearing.com to search for a well-reviewed hearing center in your zip code area. Give them a call and ask about their ability to work with your specific hearing aids. Most manufacturers print their name on the side of their hearing aids.
