Q: I am intimidated by technology, but I really need to hear better. Do you counsel your patients on using hearing aids?
A: Many of our new patients express a similar concern about managing high-tech devices, from smart phones to iPads. About 50% of my day involves handling the major technical adjustments for my patients’ hearing aids during our appointments together. The most technical task my patients handle on their own is adjusting their hearing aid’s volume whenever necessary – and that is very easy to do. Newer advanced hearing systems have a wide array of self-adjusting features that automatically fine tune what you hear depending on the sound dynamics of the environment you are in. Some patients use small remotes that allow them to wirelessly connect their hearing aids to phone calls, TV signals, and other audio devices!
